Hypnotherapy
NLP
I was introduced to this psychology when I trained as a hypnotherapist back in 2004. It was one of the many weekends during the course that we were taught the rewind technique to treat trauma. What I liked about this way of dealing with issues within the mind was factual and straightforward, unlike other therapy based psychology I’d studied before. The teacher described it as “the mechanics of the mind”, this instantly got my attention as I can’t stand waffle that switches me off its just psychobabble. I have discovered over many years of working with the mind that the more simple something is the better it works.
I bought the book human givens -a new approach to emotional health and clear thinking -A life-changing book that will stop us squandering our natural inheritance by Joe Griffin and Ivan Tyrell.
This book has influenced a lot of my therapy particularly in the early days of becoming a hypnotherapist since then experience has taken over as well as further study. I practice rewinding a technique that is demonstrated in the book on my traumatised clients it removes the trauma memory stuck in the limbic emotional part of the brain to the new cortex where the memory is stored without the emotional component allowing the client to live life again free of the trauma they were living day in day out.
So many people are suffering from trauma without realises from a physical accident like a car crash to emotional trauma from being cheated on or abused. The way I test and know if a client is traumatised is by asking them a few questions or by what they tell me. They will often disclose that they keep reliving the incident in their mind as if it’s happening in the present moment, it will feel real they may taste it, smell it, hear it, feel it as well as see it in their mind's eye.
For those clients suffering depression, they are not getting their innate needs met such as belonging to something with a sense of community, a sense of purpose and fulfilment is often what is behind it so I often plan ways of getting these needs met by looking at their lifestyle with what they are neglecting in their life. Many years ago I had a client in their early 60s who walking into my treatment room shuffling alone like a very old person with the light in their eyes dimmed, that’s how I can often tell what is going on and the change made is by looking into the eyes of the person in front of me it’s such a thrill to see the light come back into their eyes and their life, it’s a real human experience and such a rewarding one. Knowing our basic needs really helps identify what is going wrong, we are not always as complicated as we might think.
MAKE THE CHANGE
Once this client of mine stopped doing what they were doing which was bringing them down as they were mixing with older miserable people and started mixing with younger positive people in a tai chi class they really started to feel more positive and younger, I believe it’s so important who we spend time with as it affects how we feel, I’m very selective who I spend my precious time with and not ashamed to say over the years have let negative draining people go. It wasn’t easy at first but you soon get used to the more you do it, your time is one of the most precious things you have so don’t waste it, use it wisely and carefully.
COACH YOURSELF HAPPY
It’s about being honest about what YOU want out of life and I can help you find that as deep down you know but we can sometimes sabotage ourselves through old belief patterns that may induce feelings such as guilt. Once you know what you want the rest will follow. We sometimes just need the headspace to find our true selves.
